BALLYMENA SECONDS ....... 2
BANBRIDGE .......1
BALLYMENA Seconds beat Banbridge 2-1 at the weekend..
A buoyant home started off well but soon the challenge was clear as both teams fought hard to hold possession in the opening quarter.
An early goal from the visitors put them ahead in the first quarter forcing the home side to step up their attacking game.
A strong defence from Smith, Johnston, Stirling, Dickey, Simpson and Wylie in the second quarter kept the opposition from any further threat.
Some nice play through to the attack provided some opportunity through McKay and Gordon with Logan looking to pick up in the attacking circle.
A penalty corner before the halftime whistle unfortunately didn’t secure an equaliser.
Refreshed and eager for the third quarter a quick free from Dickey in the attacking quarter deflected by Goodrich into the circle finally provided the equaliser from Clarke who skillfully held at the baseline and slotted the ball into the net from an impossible angle.
With a further push from the home side the winning goal came from a well worked long corner from Johnston and crossed into the circle by Black to the penalty spot where Logan swept the ball to the backboard to secure the victory.
A late defensive corner kept the Ballymena girls alert right to the end but a wide shot didn’t shake the steady confidence of keeper J Logan.
